Anthropocene unconscious: climate anxiety in suburban sf / Mark BouldArticle - English -
Argues that the Anthropocene operates as the unconscious of contemporary art and literature, allowing its concerns to surface even in texts which do not ostensibly address issues of climate breakdown. Considers the persistence of the suburb as a site of bourgeois consumption in science fiction narratives, before examining the interplay of conscious and unconscious elements in the treatment of climate change in three suburban science fiction films: 'The Purge' (2013), 'Marjorie Prime' (2017), 'The Tomorrow War' (2021).
