Synopsis: Romantic comedy. In a small English village, headmistress Kate meets her two girlfriends once a week and they talk about men. One day Kate meets former student Jed after a funeral at which he was organist. They have sex in the graveyard and embark on a secret love affair. One day they decide to make their love public and to marry. When Kate's girlfriends learn this, they are envious and, convinced that the young lover is the wrong man for Kate, they hatch a plot. This works, and soon Kate throws her lover out of the house in the middle of the night. The young man sits down in the road where he is run over by a truck. When Kate learns of her friends' plot, she hates them. Things change when she discovers that she is pregnant and needs the help of one of them, who is a doctor. She gives birth to a baby and makes up with her friends. In the end they meet once a week again, are proud to be forty, have their usual talks and love the baby.
