Synopsis: Based on the novel by Honoré de Balzac. Set in Paris in 1817, tells the story of the return home from Napoleon's army of a colonel, who was believed to have been killed at the Battle of Eylau ten years before.Synopsis: Set in Paris in 1817. Colonel Chabert, a Napoleonic soldier, was believed to be killed at the battle of Eylau tens years ago. In fact he survived and has been making his way back to Paris to reclaim his identity and return to his wife. He arrives home to find his wife has laid claim to his fortune and has married again - to Count Ferraud. He finds too that the new Countess is not interested in recognising him as her 'lost' husband.
