Synopsis: Drama set in the fishing village of Aci Trezza in Sicily. Tired of being exploited by the wholesalers, Ntoni mortgages his family home in order to buy a boat and start working for himself. However when a storm destroys the boat the family is ruined, loses their house and is forced to beg the wholesalers for work. Nevertheless Ntoni continues to hope that one day the fishermen will be able to better themselves. Note: Originally titled "La terra trema- episodio del mare", it was intended to be the first part of a trilogy dealing with the class struggle in Sicily, however the other two episodes were never made. The film was shot in Sicilian dialect, with an added commentary in standard Italian spoken by the director Visconti and the assistant director Antonio Pietrangeli. All the actors were non-professiol actors from the village of Aci Trezza.Synopsis: Set and shot in a small village on the east coast of Sicily and using non-professional actors, tells the story of a fishing family who try to escape from poverty and exploitation by becoming the owners of their own boat. To acquire the boat, the family has to mortgage their house, and when the boat is destroyed in a storm, they are ruined.
