Ten years after the giant ape King Kong fell from the World Trade Center in New York, a team of scientists at the Atlanta Institute in Georgia, led by Amy Franklin, hope to revive the comatose Kong. A new mechanical heart is ready for him, but he still needs a blood transfusion to survive the operation. Meanwhile, in the jungles of Borneo, adventurer Hank Mitchell discovers a similar giant ape, a female, which he sells to the Institute. The resulting operation is a success, but it proves hard to keep Kong and Lady Kong in any sort of captivity for long, and soon they seek their freedom and escape to the wilderness.
