La Vérité (Original title)The Truth (Alternative title)
Date: 1960 (Release)

Countries: France, Italy

Director: Henri-Georges Clouzot

Synopsis: Story of a young French provincial girl who, as a result of a series of unfortunate circumstances dating from her early childhood, finds herself involved in a murder charge in Paris.Synopsis: Bardot gives one of her very finest performances as a young woman on trialfor murder; flashbacks from the hearing chart her progress from a stifling bourgeois family to the sexier world of a Left Bank populated by a disaffected youth the French legal system barely comprehends. The courtroom scenes display the attorneys' lack of interest in the truth, while Clouzot's survey of a Paris divided against itself according to fixed social strata was incisive and, perhaps, prescient.
