Synopsis: "The dancers of the ring" (7). "Thousands of miles away, in far-off Indo-China, dwell the women of the "Sara Djinge", the weird "dancers of the ring"" [sic. actually southern Chad in Africa] (20). ELS followed by LS of nine dancing native women in a line, arms around each others waists, moving forwards. All the women are wearing rings that elongate both the upper and lower lips and are naked from the waist up. There is a crowd of natives in the background (32). LS of native musicians playing drums and tom-toms (35). LS of rear view of dancers (41). ELS of front view (48). "The band consists of tom-toms, antelope horns, and other queer instruments" (54). Series of LSs, MSs and MCUs of the musicians playing the stated instruments (102). ""Dancers of the Ring" they call them, because of the monstrous rings or plates inserted in the upper and lower lips of the women dancers!" (115). Three MCUs of individual native women displaying for the camera the rings in their lips (139). "And when you think of our modern "shimmy" reflect on one of the places it probably came from - it has been here since the dawn of life!" (154). LS of single native male dancer with native crowd in background clapping along (167). Cut to MS of the dancer (176). Return to LS (185).
