Title: Adapting female agency: rape in The Outrage and RashomonAuthor: Lofgren, Erik R.Article type: ArticleLanguage: English
Description: Examines the treatment of rape in Akira Kurosawa's 'Rashomon' (1950) and Martin Ritt's remake 'The Outrage' (1964). Suggests that Ritt's use of the western genre, together with the advent of second-wave feminism, allows more space for the female voice than does Kurosawa's original film.
