Synopsis: In 1977, following his mother’s death in a traffic accident and his loss of hearing after being struck by lightning, 12-year-old Ben travels to New York from Gunflint, Minnesota to search for his absent father. Meanwhile, in 1927, Rose flees her neglectful father, and takes the boat from New Jersey to New York in search of silent screen actress Lillian Mayhew. Once in the city, Ben and Rose are both drawn to the American Museum of Natural History, where their seemingly disparate paths mysteriously intertwine.
