Synopsis: Marianne Vogler is a successful actress who is married to an orchestra conductor, Markus. Marianne has an extramarital affair with a friend of the family, David, who has a reckless attitude to most things in life, ruining her marriage. An elderly film director is, in parallel to this story, attempting to write a screenplay about infidelity and invites an actress to create the character of Marianne.
