- SynopsisRecounts a love story set among pioneers in a Californian gold rush town in 1867. Inspired by Thomas Hardy's novel 'The Mayor of Casterbridge'. Set in California in 1860, tells the story of Daniel Dillon, a successful gold prospector who now owns and runs the town of Kingdom Come. His plans to expand the town and turn it into a city by the development of a railroad are disturbed by the reappearance of his wife and their daughter. Twenty years earlier he had traded them for the original claim that made his fortune. (Synopsis)
