- SynopsisDrama. Switzerland, late 19th century. Young orphan Heidi is taken by her maternal aunt, Detie, to lodge with her misanthropic paternal grandfather, 'Uncle Alp', who lives an isolated existence in the Swiss mountains. The old man gradually softens towards the child, who also becomes friend with child goatherd Peter. Unexpectedly, Heidi is taken back by Detie to Frankfurt as a companion to Clara, an upper-middle-class girl confined to a wheelchair. Clara's grandmother treats Heidi with kindness and teach her to read. But Heidi becomes increasingly homesick and is sent back to the mountains on the doctor's advice. There she resumes her life with Uncle Alp and friendship with Peter. She moves to the village in winter so that she can attend school. During a summer visit, invalid Clara recovers her ability to walk after Peter's fit of jealousy. (Synopsis)
