- SynopsisBased on the love affair between T.S. Eliot and Vivienne Haigh-Wood. In 1914 spoilt socialite Vivienne Haigh-Wood visits Merton College, Oxford, with her brother to see American student Tom Eliot. Following a whirlwind romance the couple marry and honeymoon in Eastbourne. However, Vivien's wild mood swings lead her into a breakdown, which is treated by an incorrect diagnosis and the prescription of addictive drugs. After a series of public embarrassments and breakdowns, Tom has Vivien committed to an asylum, where it is ten years before she is correctly diagnosed. (Synopsis) Adaptation of the stage play by Michael Hastings about the troubled relationship between the writer T.S. Eliot and his first wife, Vivienne Haigh-Wood. Misdiagnosis of a medical condition resulted in her suffering several breakdowns and her committal to an asylum. (Synopsis)
