- SynopsisDocumentary that looks into commuter traffic chaos, specifically, that caused by work being done to Putney bridge. The bridge has only one lane open in each direction for six months. 50,000 cars a day use the bridge. The testimonies of several commuters who use the bridge are filmed. They are shown in traffic jams and tailbacks. The 23 bridges in London, carrying 1 million people a day, are over-loaded. The question of bus lanes is looked into aswell as pollution. Putney bridge has moved, due to it having taken on water; the structure was never designed to take so many cars. There are several other such construction works to take place on other bridges in London. The main players in this documentary are: Andrew Pharoah (British Road Federation), David Mellor, MP (Putney), Prebendary Kenneth Bowler (All Saints Church, Putney), John Horrocks (The Putney Society), Kerry Hamilton (London Research Centre), Diana Skelly (Project engineer), Dermot Murphy (RSPCA Hospital, Putney) and Peter Heather (Wandsworth Borough Council). The commuters are: Peter Clifton-Gould, Anne Cipriani, Fiona McDonald and Arnie Eber. (NFA Catalogue)
