- SynopsisIn Oxford in the 1950s, C.S. Lewis (known as Jack) is a don of Magdalene College and author of popular books of Christian apologetics, as well as of the Narnia books for children. One day he has tea in a hotel with the American poet Joy Gresham, a fan of his whose letters he enjoys. They get on well, though he is scholarly and reserved and she is feisty and outgoing. They meet again, including over Christmas when Joy and her son Douglas come to stay at the house where Lewis and his brother Warnie live. Eventually Jack agrees to marry Joy technically, so she can stay living in England. They grow somewhat apart, and only when a health catastrophe arises does Jack acknowledge the deep feelings he feels for Joy, and fears they may have only a short time left together. (Synopsis)
