- SynopsisProfile of the Flemish artist, Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641), court painter to King Charles I, which was made to coincide with the exhibition of his work held at the Royal Academy in London in Autumn 1999. Examines how he transformed portraiture from stiff formality to more sensuous and glamorous heights. Includes contributions from Earl Spencer, preparing one of several Van Dyck portraits of his ancestors for shipping from Althrop for the show, and from Sir Oliver Millar, the former keeper of the Queen's pictures. Also follows the photographer Mario Testino as he shoots pictures of Freddie Windsor, the son of Prince Michael of Kent, in the Van Dyck style.
