- SynopsisFuturistic fantasy adventure. The Sixty Minute War has destroyed human civilization as we know it, and centuries have elapsed. Now people live in gargantuan, tiered, mechanical, wheeled cities that roam the Earth's wastelands, chasing smaller cities to prey on. Tractionism is the way that powerful cities move to where they can find new resources to feed on. In the mighty London, young Tom Natsworthy, an orphan from the Historians Guild, meets the scar-faced fugitive Hester Shaw (whose mother was killed in battle and who was raised by Shrike, a part-human, part-machine 'Stalker', a former corpse revivified through technology), and they team up to fight the oppressive powers that be. They also encounter Katherine Valentine, the sheltered daughter of Thaddeus Valentine, a celebrated archaeologist whose sinister side is known to lowly engineer Bevis Pod. Members of the rebellious Anti-Traction League are led by Captain Khora. In the past, slave Anna Fang built an aircraft called the Jenny Haniver out of scraps, and learnt to fly it in her early Anti-Tractionist adventures. (Synopsis)
