- SynopsisDrama. Juliet Ashton is a successful young writer whose books appear under the pseudonym Izzy Biggerstaff. She enjoys London's post-war high-life, often going out dancing with her American boyfriend Mark, and her publisher Sidney is a staunch friend. Yet, traumatised by the war and by the loss of her parents, she is not happy. One day she gets a letter from one Dawsey Adams, a farmer on the Channel Island of Guernsey, asking her about a book by Charles Lamb. They begin to correspond, and Juliet senses that they have in common an abiding love of books. She decides to pay an impromptu visit to the island, to see the intriguingly-named Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, which Dawsey has told her about, in action. The visit proves to be the start of a long involvement in the life of the islanders, whose secrets from the war are still very painful. As Juliet befriends them and tries to help them, she begins to fall for Dawsey, which Mark senses when he unexpectedly turns up at the farm. (Synopsis)
