- SynopsisTeenagers Lily and Amanda, reignite their childhood friendship after years of growing apart when Amanda’s mother asks Lily to help her daughter study. After euthanizing her family’s horse, Amanda has becomes a social outcast in the prosperous Connecticut suburb where she lives, while Lily has grown up to become a polished, upper-class teenager. Though they initially seem completely at odds, the pair bond over Lily's contempt for her loathsome stepfather, Mark, and as their friendship grows, their competitive trading in acerbic quips intensifies to the point where they jokingly plan to kill Mark. However, in their attempts to impress each other, the plan soon becomes serious and together they dupe a small-time drug dealer, Tim, into helping them. (Synopsis)
- Work historyTitle note: First shown at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival with the title 'Thoroughbred'. It was released theatrically in the USA and UK with the title 'Thoroughbreds'. Screenplay note: Cory Finley initially wrote 'Thoroughbreds' as a play. It was never produced and Finley decided to adapt the work into a screenplay.
