- SynopsisFestive drama. David Richmond, the newly arrived minister in the English village of Gladbury, cannot share his parishioners' faith in a local legend, which says that once every 25 years, an angel blesses one candle from the local chandlery (run for generations by the Haddington family), to provide a Christmas miracle for some lucky villager. Richmond urges the villagers to offer each other practical help instead to bring about answers to each others' prayers, which they largely do. On Christmas Eve, events conspire to place the Christmas candle in Richmond's hands, and, aided by Emily Barstow, a local shopkeeper whose ill father he has been helping, Richmond uses the candle's miraculous power in the rescue of a heavily pregnant, destitute woman lost in a snowstorm in the woods. She and her new baby are welcomed into one of the village homes, who prove to have a surprising connection to her. Richmond's faith is restored and he starts courting Emily. (Synopsis)
