Nash: `I mean since I came back on any level.' Crosby: `That's true, that's true, we just snuck in and out last time.' Nash: (to audience) `We're going to sit down and sing some songs for you that, er...yeah you'll probably like them, they're pretty...' Crosby: `That's modest of you.' Nash: `Well yeah.' Crosby: `You'll hate 'em. They're all trash. Rotten, garbagey stuff. Obscene, political tat. We're going to do some of our heavy political material for you now. This is, this is a song that got us thrown out of the entire Zambezi nation. This one here. This is bad. This is the one about the prunes and the plums, you've heard about it, it's terrible, disgusting.' Nash: `This is the one that brought the U2 down.' Crosby: `ermph! You too?' (he points at Nash). Nash: `You too.' Crosby: `Na, that's terrible. You see you've done that man' (Nash starts strumming his guitar) `You see what you've done to me? I never used to do that..'. (Crosby puts his plectrum in his mouth and strums his guitar with his fingers looking at Nash. He smiles at Nash). Nash: `Oh, I'll do that too, sure. Crosby: (Crosby takes the plectrum out of his mouth and puts it in his pocket) `Little experiment for you. This doesn't have any words. It's appropriately called `Tree With No Leaves'.' Crosby strums his guitar. Nash shakes his head. Crosby stops strumming and retunes the guitar. Crosby: `I called it a `Song With No Words', HE called it a`Tree With No Leaves', that shows you where HE's at.' The audience laugh. Nash looks down smiling. Crosby: `That's why I hang out with him. Lot of trips, man...But you got to watch very closely, because he's quick. I found that out about English people, speedy.' (11.50) Crosby and Nash perform `Song With No Words (Tree With No Leaves)'. (14.54) The audience applaud. Var s audience. Nash: `We should do another version of that.' Crosby: `OK, how are you gonna do it?' Nash: (to audience) `Thank you'. Crosby: (stands up and fishes in pocket (for plectrum?)) `So. We're gonna. We're now going to bring in the elephant, the oil and the butter. You've never seen a buttered elephant before.' Nash retunes his guitar. Nash: `This is a song I wrote, about, ah...about a year and a half ago. And recorded it on the Deja Vu album.' (15.36) Crosby and Nash perform `Teach Your Children'. (18.20) Audience applaud. Var s audience. Crosby retunes his guitar. Nash: `Thank you. Thank you. It's really a, a, ...being in groups before, you know, for a long time. I know most of the pitfalls that go down in trying to over rehearse and also trying to under rehearse too, and we're always balancing on that tightrope. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, sometimes we get really bored you know, and then can't do it, and sometimes we can't get it together. And it's usually it's somewhere right in the middle, and it usually depends on you. 'cause if you groove behind just, being experimented upon and no showbiz going down, just sitting down and trying to sing songs...' (he turns to Crosby) `He's sure' (Crosby shakes his head) `You didn't understand one word of that...' Crosby: `I didn't understand one word in three out of that.' (Crosby imitates a voice being played back on a tape at the wrong speed). Nash: `That's right. You understood it.' (19.31) Nash: `I know.' Crosby: `What d'ya want?' Nash: `Yeah, this is a song called `Right Between the Eyes'.' Crosby and Nash perform `Right Between the Eyes'. (22.05) Audience applaud. Nash: `Thank you.' Crosby: `OK.' Nash: `OK.' Crosby: `OK. Hmm.' Nash: `This is one of David's sea songs. Is this.., do you know he's a Captain. Do you believe him - he's a Captain of a ship.' Crosby: `This is your Captain spooking.' The audience laugh. Crosby puts on a stoned/drunk voice. Crosby: `This boat isn't going anywhere, and I'm going to tell you. It's just... OK, OK that's all...' (22.46) Crosby and Nash perform `(UNIDENTIFIED SONG)' (26.39) The audience applaud. Var s audience. Nash: `Thank you' (turns to Crosby) `Would, would you do, something, for me. If you want, would you sing `Traction in the Rain'? Do you wanna do that? David wrote a beautiful new song. Crosby: `Wait a minute, wait a minute... (he makes some funny wibbly noises). Nash: `He's just decided to do it, I think.' Crosby retunes his guitar. Nash: `It's called `Traction in the Rain'. Alright?' Crosby nods. (27.34) Crosby and Nash perform `Traction in the Rain'. (31.05) The audience applaud. Nash: `Really beautiful man. That's beautiful man.' Crosby: `What else can we do?' Var s audience applauding. Nash: `Thank you' Crosby and Nash put down their guitars and leave the stage, waving to the audience who carry on applauding. End titles. (31.48) END. (NFA Catalogue)
