- SynopsisA five-part unit of programmes about the creation of the TV drama of the same name, about the Liverpool dockers' two-year fight to win back their jobs after they went on strike over working conditions. The writer Jimmy McGovern joined forces with twelve of the five hundred sacked dockers to write a drama about their struggle in a series of weekly writing workshops held throughout 1998. The unit consists of two documentaries: `The Creation of the script; parts 1 and 2' and the drama itself. The documentaries follow the creation of the script from its earliest ideas based on the dockers' personal experiences through to the final shooting script and eventual production for Channel Four. Includes guest appearances from the novelist Irvine Welsh and the actor Robert Carlyle. The drama was directed by Bill Anderson, with a cast including Ken Stott, Crissy Rock and Ricky Tomlinson.
