- SynopsisOne hundred years ago, in July 1987, reporters gathered in the small North American port of Seattle to chronicle the return of a handful of passengers from the frozen wastes of Canada, The word was that some were carrying sacks of gold. Six months later 100,000 people had massed in Seattle. They were to embark on a journey that would test them to limits of endurance; many would die and few were rewarded. This was the start of the Klondike gold rush. The programme uses photographs, letters, diaries and interviews with historians and descendants of the pioneering prospectors to tell the story.
