- SynopsisProfile of the Brazilian photojournalist Sebastiao Salgado, whose overall theme is the decline of manual labour throughout the world and its replacement by new technologies. Specially shot documentary footage of Cuban sugar workers, Brazilian gold miners, Indian textile workers and others are combined with a portrayal of Salgado and his work. The programme also contains assessments from writers, artists and other photographers, including Arthur Miller, Jorge Amado, Robert Delpire and Jimmy Fox. Follows the preparations for "The Archaeology of Industrialism" exhibition, where Salgado pays visual homage to the sugar and cigar workers of Cuba, the gold miners of Brazil, the tuna fishermen of Sicily and the ship-builders of Gdansk.
