- SynopsisDRAMA. A dog saves presents for two girls at Christmas. No main title. Two girls are prepared by their mother for bed. One of the girls turns the calendar to reveal that it is the 24th December, she grins at the camera then gestures to her mother and sister to look at the calendar. The sisters go to bed and the mother leaves the room. The girls talk and see Father Christmas in his grotto. [The girls in their beds are superimposed on the scene in the bottom right hand corner]. They become excited as Father Christmas looks through his spyglass and they call to him. Father Christmas laden with presents in his sack walks down some steps, disappearing from the frame. The girls then see Father Christmas walking along a street and continue to call to him. The girls then see him walking by a river. Two ruffians observe him and attack him, throwing him into the river. The girls are horrified but their dog leaps up from his seat in the bedroom and appears at the river where he jumps in and swims. He retrieves some of the presents and carries them to the house, climbing up a ladder and putting the presents in the chimney, all of which is observed by the girls. The girls are asleep and awaken discovering their presents beside the fireplace. Their mother enters their room and they show her their gifts. The dog then comes out of the fireplace carrying a doll and is praised by the family. The dog, sitting on a table, is surrounded by the mother and the girls who pet and kiss the dog (240ft). Note: The plot is similar to FATHER CHRISTMAS AND THE GOOD DOG, reviewed in The Bioscope 25/11/1909 p. 42. However, the footage is shorter, 228ft. as opposed to 240ft. Furthermore the dog saves Father Christmas and both arrive at the house, where Father Christmas tells the story. (Shotlist)
