- SynopsisAncient Rome: victorious general returns to rescue woman he loves from incarceration with Vestal Virgins(?) [Action unclear because of absence of intertitles] A Vandal(?) chief throws down a challenge to Rome's rulers, who choose a man to defend them. He is given a sword and helmet. A helmeted Roman (possibly the hero) embraces a woman before taking his leave of her to go to battle. Later, a wounded messenger brings her a scroll, the reading of which causes her to swoon. Subsequently the High Priest allows her admittance to the temple of the Vestal(?) Virgins. Meanwhile the hero returns in triumph to Rome, bringing the barbarian chiefs back in chains. The helmeted soldier sees his beloved, but is prevented from embracing her by the Priest. He goes to the temple to see her. Later the Priest escorts her along a path towards an underground chamber. She begs in vain to be released. Her lover bursts into the chamber with several other soldiers. All are amazed as the sacred flame flares up. The soldier brings his beloved up from the crypt where she is confined. The Priest points once more to the sacred flame (380ft). Incomplete. (Shotlist)
