- SynopsisINTEREST. Epsom Downs prepares for the races, with its betting booths, police waiting for crowds to arrive, and carts and wagons everywhere. Swarms of horse-drawn buggies and motor cars arrive in front of the covered stands and marquees. Londoners favour the Downs themselves, gathering about the tea booths, drink machines, a camera in action, a barker and an evangelical procession (24-396). Brief shot of a farm work horse, titled "The Derby Favourite!" (397-413). The Pearly King and his family (428-459), followed by a panning aerial shot of the crowds. The parade and lining-up of the horses (513-532); the 3 o'clock for the Calcutta Sweep (540-703), the shots being taken across the public enclosure, with no close-ups. Buggies join the race for home; final shot of the empty Downs (796 ft). (Shotlist)
