- SynopsisA bank clerk is falsely accused of theft. The bank manager hands some bank notes to his clerk who puts them in a safe. Before he can lock it away, he is called away and a villainous fellow clerk takes a soap impression of the key. Returning at night the villain robs the safe and plants the soap mould in the innocent clerk's desk. Next morning the theft is discovered and the innocent clerk accused. He is arrested at home in front of his wife and is sent to do hard labour in the prison quarry. With the help of fellow inmates he escapes. He takes shelter in a vicarage where the vicar holds him at gun point while he pleads his innocence. When the warders arrive to search the house he is disguised as a curate. Meanwhile, the police raid a gambling den where the villain is spending the stolen money. The numbers on the notes are recognised by the policeman and he is captured. The innocent man arrives home still dressed as the curate but hides when the police sergeant arrives. However it appears that he has been pardoned and he dances for joy with his wife. The villain in prison pulls despairingly at the bars. (782ft) (Shotlist)
