- SynopsisA new-born foal on the Evans' farm, Black Beauty is the prize possession of Evans' young son Joe. However, when the local squire calls in his loan on the farm Beauty is transferred along with the farm. The horse then undergoes a series of adventures after the squire is killed, including belonging to gypsies; performing in a circus; belonging to an aristocratic family; seeing service with the army in India; and as a coal-merchant's nag. He is eventually rescued by Anna Sewell, whose assistant is Joe Evans, who recognises his old horse and leads him away into retirement. (Synopsis)
