Synopsis: In Devon in 1817, two farm boys find a young woman dressed in exotic clothes and speaking a foreign language. She is taken to Mrs Worrall at the local manor house but is then sent to Assizes by Mr Worrall. In court it appears that the woman is a Javanese princess, Princess Caraboo, who had been captured by pirates. Her fame spreads but John Gutch, a journalist, is not so sure of the truth of the princess' identity...
