Country: United Kingdom

Director: Clive Donner

Synopsis: Jimmy Brewster is determined to be successful in life. His chance meeting with Charles Prince, a seedy but aristocratic rake, and his access to Charles' advice and monthly pension, contribute to the improvement of his position with his firm and Ann Horton, the director's daughter. When Charles plans to leave Jimmy strangles him and leaves the body locked in a trunk in the cellar. Mrs. March the landlady, knows what has happened but promises to keep quiet if Jimmy visits her regularly. Jimmy asks Ann to marry him and just before the wedding discovers that Charles was Ann's brother. After the honeymoon Jimmy is on his way to a demolition site when he reads a letter from Mrs. March saying she is in South Africa. He realises that his old digs are being pulled down and the body of Charles is discovered. Mrs. March would seem to be the obvious suspect.
