Fanatic (Original title)Die! Die! My Darling! (Alternative title)
Dates: 1965 (Copyright), 21 March 1965 (Release)

Country: United Kingdom

Director: Silvio Narizzano

Synopsis: Horror-thriller. An old lady locks up her dead son's erstwhile fiancée with the intention of 'reforming' her. American Patricia Carroll is visiting her television producer fiancé Alan in England, prior to their wedding. Before anything else, though, Patricia insists on paying a visit to Mrs Trefoile, the mother of Patricia's late former fiancé. She drives to Mrs Trefoile's rambling riverside house, where she finds the old lady to be obsessed with religion and the salvation of her son's soul, for which she holds Patricia partly accountable. Mrs Trefoile leads a frugal and puritanical life with vegetarian meals, long prayer services and an abhorrence of mirrors and make-up. Patricia plays along politely, even agreeing to stay overnight and to go to church with her the next morning, but Mrs Trefoile becomes so rude and insistent that Patricia eventually decides to leave, telling Mrs Trefoile a few home truths about her son and his death in the process. Mrs Trefoile duly has her locked up and begins to starve her, hoping that Patricia will come round and see things as she does. Patricia attempts to escape, but her captor has servants Harry and Anna to do her bidding, as well as a pistol. Meanwhile, Alan sets out to track Patricia down, as he has not heard from her.
