- SynopsisAston lives in an unfurnished room of an empty house owned by his brother Mick. He meets Davies, a tramp who has been sacked from an all night café and invites him back to the house. Davies talks about himself, how he wants to collect his identity papers from Sidcup and his need for new shoes. Mick visits the house while Aston is out and after tormenting and frightening Davies, asks him to stay on as caretaker. Aston has also asked him to do the same and Davies changes his allegiance between the brothers. First he is thrown out by Aston and brought back by Mick; then Mick throws him out. Davies then realises he is unwanted. (Synopsis) Screen adaptation of the play by Harold Pinter. (Synopsis)
