- SynopsisEach week 300 British children are excluded from school for violent or disruptive behaviour. This series tells the stories of a number of children who are given a second chance to succeed at school. Programme two focuses on 15-year-old Tammy who has been in care since she was eight - living in a succession of children's homes and with different foster families. Despite this instability, Tammy was doing well at school and had no record of bad behaviour. She has dreams of being a criminal defense lawyer and working with young offenders. But in January 2001, after a confrontation, Tammy pushed a teacher against a wall in full view of other staff. Unusually for a first offence, the incident resulted in expulsion. Tammy, meanwhile, applied to nine other schools but they all rejected her. She was feeling increasingly isolated and disillusioned. Worse still she felt she could no longer trust the education system. Given a second chance, could Tammy's faith be restored? St Marylebone's Girls School in central London teaches some of the most disadvantaged girls in the country. Yet pupils here achieve some of the best GCSE results of any state school. For this documentary, St Marylebone's agreed to create a place for Tammy - a child deemed unteachable by her own school. How does Tammy rise to this huge challenge? (C4 Press) (Synopsis)
