- SynopsisExamines the efforts of archaeologists and other scientists to make sense of the perfectly preserved circle of large holes of almost 13 metres across that were discovered in July 1998 in downtown Miami, Florida after six apartment blocks were demolished to make way for the construction of two new 40-storey skyscrapers. The discovery generated huge excitement and controversy with speculations on the origins of the holes ranging from a 1950s septic tank to a UFO landing pad to a 2,000 year-old native American site belonging to a tribe of hunter-gatherers called the Tequestas. The site was bought by the state for $27 million to allow the investigations to continue. Participants in the programme include: archaeologists Bob Carr, John Ricisak, Gary Beiter, and Drs Randolph Widmer and Bonnie McEwan, developer Michael Baumann, surveyor Ted Riggs, Darden Hood of Beta Analytic Laboratories, Miami, Dr Jerald Milanich of Florida Museum of Natural History, Dr Thomas Scott and Harley Means of Florida Geological Survey, Dr Jacqueline Dixon of the University of Miami and architectural historian Prof Herschel Shepard of the University of Florida.
