- SynopsisExamines the admiration Hitler had for Britain and the British Empire and his desire to emulate in Russia what Britain had done in India and other territories. Covers relations between the countries in the 1930s, including the naval agreement of 1935, and events such as re-occupation of the Rhineland and the annexation of Austria. Also, the policy of appeasement and the German occupation of the Sudetenland and then invasion of Czechoslovkia. By 1939 Hitler found himself on the brink of war with Britain, whom he viewed as a natural ally, and allied to the Communist Soviet Union, which he abhored. (Synopsis)
