- SynopsisDRAMA. A policeman on his beat discovers a house on fire and gives the alarm. He rushes into the firestation and the firemen go into action. A horse-drawn fire-engine and escape gallop off. In the burning house a man in bed discovers the fire which he endeavours to extinguish with a jug of water; he is overcome and collapses on the bed. A fireman breaks in the window with a hatchet and carries the man to safety through the window. The man is carried down the fire escape and, recovering his senses, recollects that there are other people in the burning building. Another fireman goes to the rescue through the French window and re-appears with a child in his arms who is received by the rescued man. Meanwhile another inhabitant is rescued with the use of a jumping sheet and is carried away by the firemen (266ft). Note: The fire appliances are marked 'Hove'. (Shotlist)
