- SynopsisDRAMA. Marguerite Gautier, known as the Lady of the Camelias, seeks distraction in a continual round of pleasures although suffering from rapid consumption. She falls in love with Armand Duval, a friend of her neighbour Prudence. A few days later, Armand calls on Marguerite. She is delighted to see him but presently sends him away, pretending that she wishes to be alone. As Armand leaves he sees Count Giray arrive at Marguerite's house and understands her reason for getting rid of him. Grealy upset he calls on his friend Prudence. Armand confides in Prudence his unhappiness and gives her a letter for Marguerite breaking off their relationship. Immediatelyy after Count Giray has settled her debts, Marguerite receives Armand's letter. Armand, full of remorse and tenderness, returns to Marguerite and asks for her forgiveness. Armand's father receives a letter from the father of his daughter's sweetheart and decides to beg Marguerite to break off with his son. With Armand's interests at heart she takes the necessary steps to break off the relationship. She leaves a note for Armand telling him that she is living with Count Varville. Overcome by violent jealousy, Armand throws money he has won gambling in Marguerite's face when he meets her at a soiree. Count Varville sends a challenge for having insulted Marguerite and a duel takes place. M Duval, Armand's father, touched by the depths of Marguerite's love for his son, asks her forgiveness. Armand hurries to her bedside; Marguerite dies in his arms (1885ft).
