Behind the Scenes at the RSC The Stage: Set, Props and Paint (Original title)
Date: 02 November 1998 (Television)

Country: United Kingdom

Synopsis: First of two programmes providing a behind-the-scenes look at theatre craft and theatre production. The programmes follow the journey of new productions at the Royal Shakespeare Company, including `Measure for Measure', directed by Michael Boyd and designed by Tom Piper. They show the craft skills of the Stratford workshops in action as they interpret the designs for the play, in the form of model box and costume drawings. The programmes also draw on several other productions from the 1998 RSC season, covering a range of technical problems and a variety of theatre craft skills in some very different contexts - from the bloodbath of `The Spanish Tragedy' to the comedy of `Much ado about nothing' to the magic of `The Tempest' and the fun of `Bartholomew fair'. The programme titles are: `The Stage: Set, props and paint' and `The Players: Costume, wigs, weapons and make-up'
