Synopsis: Based on the story of the Apollo 13 mission in 1970. An explosion in the service module caused the spacecraft to lose power and oxygen. The planned moon landing was cancelled and Mission Control had only a short time in which to work out how to restart the computer for re-entry to bring the crew of three astronauts back to earth.Synopsis: Adventure drama based on true events. In 1970, NASA sends three astronauts to the moon. A technical fault disrupts the mission, depriving the crew of much of their oxygen supply and electrical power. Title: Untethered technology in Gravity: gender and spaceflight from science fact to fictionAuthor: PALMER, Lorrie Article type: ArticleLanguage: English
Description: Article examines the way in which the film ‘Gravity’ (2013) redefines the relationship between the female astronaut and technology. Contrasting ‘Gravity’s central female character, Ryan Stone, against earlier male astronaut depictions in films such as 'The Right Stuff' (1983) and 'Apollo 13' (1995), the article argues that the mythic figure of the astronaut is reimagined through her relationship with technology.
