Synopsis: Historical drama. Restrained statesman William Lamb and his unruly wife Lady Caroline are ostracized when she becomes the mistress of the wild Lord Byron. Lamb's political career is threatened by the scandal, but he refuses to leave his wife. When the Duke of Wellington explains to Caroline that William will not go higher in government unless she separates from him, she does so, but this brings happiness to neither of them, and Caroline goes mad.
