Synopsis: Adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel. Out in the countryside enjoying a picnic, Joe Rose and his girlfriend Claire are interrupted by the sight of a hot-air balloon with a child in its basket and an adult being dragged behind. Joe tries to help but cannot avert tragedy. Witness to this event is bystander Jed Parry who is unbalanced by the experience and becomes dangerously obsessed.
