Synopsis: Action drama. Peter Bowman, an engineer working in South America on a dam, is kidnapped by anti-government forces (the ELT). A specialist in the resolution of kidnapping and ransom situations, Terry Thorne, is called in but when it is discovered that Bowman's company lacks the necessary insurance, Thorne is recalled to London. Bowman's wife, Alice and sister, Janice are left on their own to deal with corrupt local officials until Thorne and his trusted friend Dino return to help them. Bowman has been taken to an isolated ELT camp where he is held captive by increasingly erratic guerrillas. Thorne undertakes lengthy and difficult ransom negotations to free Bowman, a situation further complicated by the growing attraction between he and Alice.
