Synopsis: The destinies of three couples, separated by time, but living in the same place. A young man in the north of England lives in a caravan with his parents, and when his girlfriend moves to London they meet up once a month at Crewe and go exploring the local area. One Saturday on their travels they find a votive, or sacred, axe-head which dates back to Roman times. Roman invaders lived in the area awaiting an attack from their enemies. The axe-head was also unearthed during the English Civil War, about the time when a group hiding away in a church was attacked by their enemies.
