Synopsis: Danish backpacker Mike Hammershoi arrives at Black's estate in the Scottish Borders looking for work. The blind owner Francis Black lives a reclusive life there with his eldery mother Bella, and offers Mike a low-paid job in the yard. Mike is unsure whether to accept but is taken with Francis's young wife Rachel, so stays. Francis is domineering and jealous and a frustrated Rachel is attracted to Mike and the two begin an affair. In a fit of jealous anger Francis sacks Mike, but Rachel plans to run off with him. Francis finds out and waits for the lovers with a knife near where they will have to pass to escape.
