Shakespearean seriality: the ‘Hollow Crown’, the ‘Wooden O’, and the ‘Circle in the Water’ of history
/ Tomas Elliott
In:
Adaptation v12 n2 August 2019
, pp. 69–88
Article - English -
Part of the special issue ‘Adaptation and history’. Article looks at how seriality and Shakespeare relate. Focusing on recent BBC series ‘The Hollow Crown’ (2012), and ‘The War of the Roses’ (2016), the paper looks at how these series disrupt the usual perception of the progression of time in serials. Also examines new ways to understand the narrative processes predominant in both serialised television and the passage of time in Shakespeare’s plays.
