Babitsky's War (Original title)
Date: 04 September 2000 (Television)

Country: United Kingdom

Director: Paul Yule

Synopsis: In the autumn of 1999 Babitsky was one of the very few journalists reporting on the war in Chechnya from the inside. He shot footage from the front line at great personal risk. His nightly radio show on Radio Liberty preesnted a very different story from the official reporting of military triumph. He reports "in the first short bombing attack when it became clear that Chechan villages were being destroyed at random and that civilians were dying, I made up my mind almost at once that militayr actions of thwe political leaders and the nature of this war were criminal". Babitsky was arrested and captured by the Russian army and incarcerated in a Filtration camp. In the end Babistky was not discredited and told the world what President Putin wanted to remain hidden.
