- SynopsisDrama. The film takes a look at what might have happened behind the scenes of the making of F.W. Murnau's classic 'Nosferatu' in the early 1920's. In particular, the narrative focuses on the character of actor Max Schreck. Although the director warns the crew that Schreck believes in total immersion in his role and is only to be seen in full costume and make-up, it is nevertheless a shock to everyone on seeing Schreck for the first time. Schreck's threatening behaviour and demeanour lead those involved to wonder whether Murnau did in fact make a pact with a real vampire to play the title role of Nosferatu in return for the leading lady as a prospective victim.
