- SynopsisDavid Carne, an idealistic young Liverpudlian is roused by the appeal of a Spanish militiaman to go and fight for the Republican cause in Spain in the Civil War of 1936. In Catalonia, he joins the Workers' Party of Marxist Unification (Partido Obrero de Unificación Marxista, POUM) and falls in love with fellow member Blanca. But David finds that he becomes increasingly engaged with his own side's internecine conflicts and witnesses political in-fighting between POUM and the International Brigades. (Synopsis)
