- SynopsisIn England's west country, poor John Durbeyfield learns of a connection with the aristocratic Durberville family, and he sends his oldest daughter Tess to visit these rich relatives. Tess's innocence and beauty attract her wayward cousin Alec, with violent and ultimately devastating consequences. Putting that part of her life behind her, Tess finds work at a dairy and believes she has found love when she meets the intellectual Angel Clare, but her past continues to invade her life and Tess finds that happiness remains out of reach. When Alec comes back into her life with an unexpected offer, the final twists of dark fate await them both. (Synopsis)
